RD&D SERVICES
RD&D is a research-driven initiative dedicated to advancing the science and practice of search and detection. We leverage extensive public safety experience alongside the latest developments in airborne and submersible drone technologies to drive innovation in the detection of elusive targets in complex environments.
Our mission remains the same:
See the unseeable – find the unfindable.
Our multidisciplinary team conducts cutting-edge research in the use of thermal, multi-spectral, and submersible drone systems, and develops evidence-based training and educational resources for public safety personnel and forensic practitioners. We also explore advanced forensic photo analysis techniques to enhance detection capabilities and inform best practices.
Through rigorous field testing, knowledge mobilization, and hands-on instruction, we aim to elevate operational readiness, enhance public safety outcomes, and support professional communities engaged in search and recovery missions.
RD&D is committed to sharing knowledge, building capacity, and advancing the field through collaboration and education.

Lectures on Canine & Drone Human Remains Detection
Our comprehensive lectures on human remains detection offer invaluable insights into the world of cadaver dogs, drones, and their role in forensic investigations. Our engaging presentations cover various topics, including scent training methodologies, search strategies, the science behind canine olfaction, and drone based thermal and multi-spectral mapping.
Whether you're a forensic professional or academic institution, our lectures provide a deep understanding of the capabilities and limitations of canine and drone human remains detection.
How it Works
Drones are valuable tools for detecting property, evidence, and individuals. When used together, these drones can enhance our detection capabilities and further assist investigative measures. The thermal drone can quickly identify areas with abnormal heat patterns, indicating potential locations or sites for the items we are searching for. The multi-spectral drone can then provide additional information about the vegetation, soil, or other factors that might suggest a disturbance in the area.
Submersible Drones
Submersible drones play a crucial role in evidence detection in underwater environments such as oceans, lakes, or rivers. Equipped with advanced sensors and imaging technology, these drones can navigate through aquatic terrain with precision, capturing high-resolution images and video footage. Whether it's retrieving submerged objects or mapping underwater scenes, submersible drones provide a valuable tool for gathering vital evidence that may otherwise be inaccessible.
Multi-Spectral Drones
Multi-Spectral drones use sensors capable of capturing images in different wavelengths of light, including visible and non-visible ones. By analyzing the reflected or emitted light from the terrain, they can provide information beyond what the human eye can perceive. This includes detecting differences in vegetation health, soil moisture, or mineral composition. These variations can indicate the presence of a clandestine grave, which may have different characteristics than the surrounding area due to disturbances caused during the burial process.
Thermal Drones
Thermal drones are equipped with thermal imaging cameras that can detect heat signatures. When a body decomposes underground, it releases heat as a result of the decomposition process. A thermal drone can detect these variations in temperature and identify potential burial sites. It can distinguish between the heat emitted by a body and the surrounding environment, even if the burial site is hidden under layers of soil
